Alternative fitness classes
Going to the gym and doing the same reps, same cardio, same machines for the same amount of time might be alright for some, but if you’re anything like us, that can get boring pretty quick. We like to mix it up in the Manuka Life office and we’re always keen to try out new things and different classes when it comes to fitness. So we’ve been looking into the best, brand new ways to stay in shape this year.
Barry’s Bootcamp calls itself “The best workout in the world” which is quite a claim, their classes are a mix of cardio and strength workouts and say they burn up to 1000 calories in just an hour. The class has become wildly popular recently with plenty of celeb fans and even olympic athletes taking part due to the fun atmosphere (think low lights and loud music), although they say it’s suitable for any skill level and no two classes are the same.
If you like to keep it classic and love nothing more than a good run, then Precision Running might be for you. Designed by personal trainer David Siik, it’s a treadmill workout that is designed to be high fat burning with minimal risk of injury, with specific inclines and David’s own version of HIIT, known as BITE – Balanced Interval Training Experience. We’re thinking spin class, but on a treadmill.
Here’s one for the yogis, described as fusing Thai boxing and martial arts with Yoga, ballet, dance and stretches, KickAsana is basically a high-fat burning yoga session. It’s a great way to mix up your workout, a lot of cardio and strength with some yoga poses thrown in and keeping a focus on breathing and stretching, the perfect balance.
That’s right, hula-hooping as a fitness class. We’re always looking out for exciting ways to keep fit and this sounds like great fun. A cardio session that works all sorts of muscles as you hula, the creators claim you’ll be jogging, jumping, squatting and spinning, burning calories and toning all over.
