Introducing: Re//Store X Manuka Life

01-12-2016

Maaike Mekking of ReStore is a London based photographer and art director with a broad background in design. Following an introduction to Astanga Yoga and the birth of her two daughters, she found herself reflecting on the circle of life. She has always believed in a holistic approach to life, but as her yoga practice developed she began exploring this way of living in greater depth, and through this reflection and exploration the Re//Store project was born.

The Re//Store concept is an on-going project with its first expression in the Restore Kitchen Instagram, which is centred around experimenting with food and sharing her recipes and creations. With Re//Store for the Manuka Life blog Mekking aims to connect like minded people and showcase projects working with wellness and sustainability to inspire and increase awareness on something so important in this day and age.

The Manuka Matters blog is the perfect platform to showcase and share the places, ventures and great minds behind them so stay tuned for inspiration and a peek behind the scenes.

Coincidentally we found our mutual aesthetics merging so wonderfully so some more collaborative magic is due to happen within the near future, but for the meantime we look forward to building and sharing a little black book of inspiring and lesser known go to’s, with places to eat, where to shop and where to marvel at beauty, starting with our beloved city of London.

We’ve asked Maaike to give us a peek into her favourite things from around her beautiful home and workspace, captioned below.

I love this shelf in the study by Martino Camper, a great London based product designer. Magazines are my go-to to get inspiration amongst many other things.

Art books, a Montessori toy and West-German pottery.

The work corner in my study. And my favourite backpack found in a vintage shop during my time living in Stockholm.

My husband and I are both massive vinyl collectors and I have been since I was 13, very dangerous as they are so heavy and we curse this habit each time we move house… But I still feel nothing beats the excitement of pulling the vinyl out of its sleeve, not to mention the sound quality.

I love the built in cupboard in our cottage where we keep all our crockery and glassware.

We built lots of shelves in the kitchen to keep all my jars with legumes, seeds, nuts etc. The Klean Kanteen bottle has been such a good purchase! I am a firm believer in saying no to plastic wherever possible so I always carry this around with me.
